Day 6. Today is devoted to a tour of Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO). The observatory is located near the summit of Mauna Loa at 3396 m (11141 ft), an elevation gain from sea level at Hilo, with a 14 km (8.8 mile) drive up a winding one lane road. Most of us feel light headed at summit, standing up suddenly is not recommended.
