For all its colorful history, the Trace faded in the steamboat era. Like many of the classic roads I have sought out, the Natchez Trace Parkway was a project of the CCC in the 1930s, a public works project designed to create jobs and end the Great Depression, and commemorate the Trace. It is on lists of top motorcycle rides in America, and I can't resist the ride.
