Down East Ride 2008

Rock slides along sheet joints on Mount Champlain. Sheet joints are the focus of my study. In October 2006 an earthquake woke me and my students with shaking and an audible boom. The magnitude 4.2 earthquake caused rock falls and slides that closed several hiking trails. The Precipice Trail on Champlain Mountain was closed for two years, and the East Face Trail (Orange and Black Path) did not reopen until 2009.
