Death Valley 2006

Previous | Next | Index

View of the Sierra Nevada, the great uplifted Mesozoic batholith. Owens Valley lies beyond the low ridge, just visible at center. Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the continental U.S., is the tallest "tooth" in the center. The short distance we have come from Badwater, the lowest point, speaks to the great tectonic forces active in the restless Earth.
