Sand dunes trapped at the north end of the valley near Stovepipe Wells, where the ranges converge and the wind drops it's sediment load. Stovepipe Wells was named for the water wells once dug into the sand using stove pipe liners. Unusual rains during our visit left the sand moist at depth, as well as flooding Racetrack Playa.
