Those who begin the steep descent from Skeleton Point commit to reaching the river. Skeleton Point was supposedly named following an incident where the lead mule of a pack train fell over the cliff, dragging the entire yoked train down with him. Paleo-karst features in the Mississippian Redwall limestone record an ancient cave system.
